Mission Statement

The implementation of Aeronautical Information Management (AIM) for up-to-date and high-quality information will lead to a safer and cost effective air traffic and flight management. While AIM is considered to be an intermediate step on the way to System Wide Information Management (SWIM) there is currently quite some hype about this because it fundamentally changes the way aeronautical information is handled.

The AIM concept is revolutionising the Aeronautical Data provisioning business from two different sides. One is the management of data for which new processes and work-flows have to be established in the AIS offices. The other side is the technical infrastructure which will move to a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). This imposes new requirements and most notably new data exchange standards like AIXM 5 which in turn require the development and deployment of new systems.

While the first aspect has to be tackled by the ANSPs and CAAs by introducing quality assurance processes, staff training, etc., the second aspect is a clear mandate to the industry. Unfortunately, because of the implicit paradigm change introduced by AIM there are considerable investment costs for the development of native AIM systems.

In the links section of this site you will find pointers to regulaters and organisations that set out the goals and standards for AIM and SWIM. However, you will find only little information about AIM systems in general.

This is why we found the need to set up this web-site.

We provide you with information regarding AIM and SWIM from the perspective of a solution provider. COMSOFT runs this site in order to preserve and promote information for all persons generally interested in AIM advancements as well as the aeronautical information management community.

This site is still in an early phase so stop by regurlaly and watch it grow.
